No one wants to be in the company of a smelly person, and a deodorant is specially made to prevent body odor. Body odor results when the sweat in the armpits leads to the growth of bacteria. The bacteria give off the foul odor. The fragrance of the deodorants is used to mask the foul odor. But unlike perfumes, deodorants also consist of antibacterial compounds that destroy the bacteria, keeping your underarms fresh for an extended time.
Perfumes have a stronger scent than deodorants in general, while deodorants have a much more subtle fragrance that cannot be smelt from a distance. Hence, perfumes are longer-lasting than deodorants and also project the scent in the atmosphere.
When it comes to shielding body odor, the deodorant is the ideal solution. It is applied directly to the underarms to prevent the growth of bacteria. In contrast, perfumes are sprayed to spread the scent and give off a pleasant vibe.
The frequency of application also differs a lot in the case of perfume and deodorants. Typically, deodorants are applied daily or every alternate day. But perfumes are only applied to occasional events to make an impact on people.
The packaging of both types of fragrances also differs markedly from each other. Perfumes have a much more luxurious packaging. The perfume bottles are contained in boxes printed with innovative designs. Moreover, the perfume bottles have unique, stylish shapes that communicate the vibe of the perfume and the sensation it is supposed to give to the wearer.
Unlike perfumes, deodorants do not have a much more modest packaging. Most deodorants are not packaged in boxes. The bottle shape is also simple, with no extraordinary shapes.
Perfumes and deodorants also have huge differences in prices. Since perfumes are worn on special occasions, they come under the category of luxury products with an expensive price tag and cater to high-end customers in most cases. Deodorants are considered to be budget products, and most deodorants are priced to target low- or mid-range customers. Some brands of deodorants cater to high end but they are the exception.
Treating perfume as a deodorant goes against the purpose for which the perfume is made. There are several reasons why using perfume as deodorant is not recommended.
• Perfume spray consists of chemicals that can react with underarm sweat bacteria and cause itching in the sensitive skin of the armpit, so if your underarms are smelling, this is a painful way of removing bad odor.
• If your underarms are wet, then spraying perfume would mean that the perfume will dissolve in water, and the scent would fade away completely. Deodorant sprays do not encounter such problems and can be sprayed on wet skin as well.
• Applying perfume on shaved armpits is also not recommended. This is because during the shaving process, the skin pores become open and once the perfume liquid comes in contact with skin pores, the perfume chemicals can damage skin pores and cause a stinging sensation in the armpits. The same applies to waxed armpits as well.
So, you can see that perfume, in general, is not meant to be used like a deodorant, and repeatedly using it can also cause damage to the skin. No matter how fabulous the scent of the perfume is, we do not recommend that you apply perfume to battle armpit odor.
